Shout out to Kodachrome!

Thank you Kodachrome for an amazing weekend of dancing in Virginia!

The founders of BDCP (yes, all four) were invited to teach dance workshops for college and high school students from all over the DMV region (DC, MD, and VA)! There were seven workshops in all and BDCP taught three of them. Let me just say, the DMV has some sickkkkk dancers and choreographers!

Aaren kicked off the event with a fast-paced, hard-hitting piece and Kim brought some sexiness. The next day, Brian and Cynthia taught a piece with a little attitude. Most fun teaching ever! Videos will be posted by Kodachrome soon (see links at the end of the post). Thanks for showing us so much love!

Major shout-out to all the other dope choreographers! If you do not know who these guys are you definitely need to check them out! Seriously, dope
  • Joshua Gilmore (Boogie Bots, Culture Shock DC)
  • Tristan Suarez (Crewcial)
  • Frederick Mayor (Crewcial)
  • Chris Munar (Major Definition, Ajnin Precizion, TitoBoyscouts)
Shout-out to the dancers of Crewcial, Bamboom, Culture Shock DC, and Major Definition for all the support.

BDCP would like to thank Kodachrome for the amazing opportunity and look forward to future collaborations!

Vote for Karla on SYTYCD

Vote for Karla Garcia on So You Think You Can Dance!

BDCP definitely supports Karla! Karla is crewmates with one of the founders of BDCP, Kim, on the Boogie Bots Crew. In addition, Brian, Cynthia, and Aaren have taken her workshop and have seen her perform up and down the East Coast over the last 5 years. So vote Karla! Why wouldn't you??? She's beautiful and talented!

The Past Two Months

The founders of BDCP have been busy with life but that does not mean they put BDCP or dancing on hold!

Kim has been finishing some college courses, teaching beginners' hip-hop classes, reppin' Boogie Bots Crew, and continuing her training dancing with Culture Shock - DC. Definitely super woman. Kim also performaned at Culture Shock - DC's East Coast Dance Competition (ECDC)! Huge success! Maybe the biggest highlight of all was seeing Kim's face on national television on So You Think You Can Dance! Ok, so it was only a picture promoting Karla's ties to Boogie Bots, but it was still seen by millions of people!

Aaren is rockin' the engineering career and has found time to advise several dance groups at Virginia Tech. Somehow he has also found time to create some hot mixes. He should sell a CD of all the mixes he has made for different groups over the years! Currently, Aaren is super busy helping jump start BDCP's dance company and workshop series.

Cynthia and Brian finished their first year of teaching! In between grading papers and lesson plans, they have found time to take workshops with many top dancers, including Karla Garcia, Lyle Beniga, and several Culture Shock choreographers through ECDC. They traveled to New York City not only for Chicken and Rice but for Team Milennia's Prelude-EC competition. Congratulations Rhythm City for a well deserved first place win! Shout out to Project D that definitely should have placed.

What's up with BDCP? BDCP itself is still in the planning stages. Over the last two months that team has slowly grown to help with all the nuts and bolts that go with creating a non-profit. The fall season looks to be an exciting one! In other news...be on the look out for a collaboration workshop series with Kodachrome-VA in August in the Northern Virginia area!

Welcome Andrew Ton to BDCP

Baltimore Dance Crews Project is extatic to welcome Andrew Ton as a principal choreographer for after-school programs. Back in November 2008, Brian invited dancers from Bamboom to spend the day with his students at the REACH Partnership School. Andrew accepted the invite. The connection between Andrew and the students was immediate. Andrew was a natural at teaching choreography to young 6th graders and inspiring a new generation of dancers. The success with REACH students places Andrew as an excellent model for all future BDCP choreographers. His example and leadership will help BDCP better serve the students of Baltimore!

Andrew Ton is an upcoming choreographer out of Virginia Tech. Also known as Nomadic, Andrew got his start dancing and choreographing for different Virginia Tech groups. Nomadic now reps his own crew DOP (Dancing's Our Poison). He has been a featured choreographer for Kodachrome-VA, Bamboom's Winter Intensive, and Baltimore Dance Crews Project. His other talents include music and spokenword.

Check out some of Andrew's work on his youtube account: http://www.youtube.com/user/tontonthenomad.

Stay tuned! Other BDCP profiles are in the works!

Great Culture Shock DC Workshop: Tony Kundu

Cynthia, Brian, AND KIM (finally reunited) took an amazing house workshop with Tony Kundu (www.kundudance.com).  This was Cynthia and Brian's first training in house.  Tony really broke down basics of house.  If  you have a chance, try to take a class with Tony!
